Season 5 - Week 1

Hello to all,

I would like to start with an apology, given that I am in Cyprus my commentary will be neither as long or as funny as it normally is (yes I can already hear the comments, probably "good" and "it was never funny" respectively.

Congrats to those who won in week 1 - Daniel Lewis heads the pile and is hotly followed by some more new names, but also some ever-so-familiar ones. Tim Hughes continues his good from from last year and David Lloyd and yours truly show why they are consistently beating the bookies.

Two-time Pele winner Nick Lines was as dull as ever, but he will doubtless pick 9 out of 10 winners and somehow scrape another title!

For those newbies I would like to try to give out some hints, and maybe you "veterans" should listen too, as some of you haven't seemed to have learnt. Firstly forget about winning the accumulator, there is always one idiot (cough David Pilkington cough) who decides his own place in the league is more important than actually winning money! Birmingham away at Chelsea I mean really it was never on the cards...... okay maybe a touch unlucky this time...... actually the odds were quite good..... sorry caught a bit of greedyitis there.

So where was I... I'm sure this heat is getting to me, yes lessons we have learnt (well most of us).

1) The top four don't represent value

2) There is always one promoted team that overperforms in the Premiership, find them, back them cherish them, the bookies wil stubbornly ignore the fact they are good.

3) Good teams away from home are always a good bet

4) Don't bet on what you don't know, or more usefully, find out about what you want to bet on, there are people making a fortune from the Scottish third division, solely because they know more about it that the bookies. General rule of thumb, if you can't name any of their players don't bet on them.

5) Don't try to write your analysis when you haven't looked at the leagues properly as you'll be forced to pad your analysis out with mindles advice and people will notice..... damn
